This is a new development on\u00a0the site of the old Variety Market\u00a0of Belfast, Northern Ireland. The\u00a0selection of stone was made simple\u00a0by the desire to pay respect to the\u00a0adjacent Royal Courts of Justice.<\/p>\n
Adapting the scale and proportions\u00a0of the adjacent building, the new Bar\u00a0Library Headquarters exterior uses\u00a0contrasting planes of Portland stone\u00a0(Basebed, Whitbed and Roach),blue engineering brick, and glass\u00a0to create an abstract formation that\u00a0complements and contrasts with its\u00a0neighbouring building.<\/p>\n
The interior was treated as an\u00a0extension of the exterior with\u00a0the planes of Portland limestone\u00a0returning into the building where\u00a0possible, forming an illusion that the\u00a0building was created from a series\u00a0of boxes. Polished Portland Blue was\u00a0used for the floors.<\/p>\n
