The shell fragments are randomly distributed across the stone. Some areas in the quarry have yielded cross bedding. Please note that the colour of Portland Stone may vary across different computer monitors due to variations in display settings. This photo highlights the typical shell content within each individual bed. To gain a better understanding of the typical colour and surface texture of Portland Stone, we recommend visiting our factory in Portland to view the panels in person. Roach®
Roach contains large grey shell fragments. The shells include Turreted Gastropods (Portland Screws) as well as large clam shells. The large Turreted Gastropods and clam shells are associated with voids. Some of the voids can be in excess of 50mm long and the stone’s texture in between the voids is often tight and dense.

Cladding, Lintels and window sills, Load bearing stone including columns, External paving, Interior flooring, interior feature walls, carving / sculptures.
Sizes Available
Any size up to 1200×800. Minimum 20mm thick.
Colour
Typical Portland colour – creamy/white, although the large concentrations of grey shells can darken the overall colour.
