Heritage Portland Stone Bricks®

Heritage Portland Stone® Bricks are made from our Heritage Portland stone blocks. These bricks are not heated to high temperatures like traditional clay fired bricks so have a fraction of the embodied carbon and along with Albion our extensive efforts to reduce carbon, this makes our Heritage Portland Stone Bricks one of the lowest carbon building materials in the world.

Mother nature has been designing these bricks for over 140 million years and every one is unique, telling the story of the life at the bottom of a rich, tropical Jurassic Sea.  Portland Stone is normally supplied as a luxury cladding for the most exclusive properties in London’s Mayfair and the City, but we are now offering these beautiful bricks Australia-wide at a more competitive price to make this low carbon product affordable for a much larger range of projects.

Sizes Available

Standard bricks 215x65x102, Long format bricks 440x50x102

Mortar

The joint sizes will depend on the design, but it is assumed that the typical brick joint of 10mm will be used in most applications.  Bedding mortar can be 1:1:6 or 1:2:8, White Cement, Hydrated Lime, and Washed Sand (Portland stone dust can be used instead of washed sand – available on request). Avoid sand containing clays or other contaminates that could leach into the stone bricks.  The mortar should not be stronger than the stone itself and the hydrated lime should not be replaced with a proprietary plasticiser as chemicals within these products may react or discolour the stone.  It is essential that the mortar selected achieves an adequate compressive and bond strength to ensure full compatibility and structural performance with the specified brick ties.  Lime mortars may be appropriate in some applications but may need a longer curing period.
